Steven DeWitt opened his architectural office in 1981 to specialize in the design and construction of luxury custom homes. Since then over 60 of his unique designs have been built in some of the best residential areas in Colorado, USA.
In 1988 he moved to Rome, Italy to study European Country Homes and work as a consultant for an Italian architectural office. He collaborated on three villas ranging from 20,000 square feet to 120,000 square feet. "It was a wonderful opportunity to work with beautiful marbles and old world craftsmen. Walking in Rome each night was like walking through a grand architectural museum, with every style properly displayed," he remarks. His stay in Italy also gave him an appreciation for the efficiency and quality that we build into our homes in the USA.
Since his return to Colorado in 1990, he has designed and built over 30 elegant country homes. "After living in an ancient, high density city such as Rome for two years, I realized that we are fortunate to have such wide open space in our country. Boulder County has spectacular views and spacious properties so a home can stretch out with large comfortable rooms." Inspired by Italy, France and England, he has been using classic materials such as brick, stone, and stucco, which are beautifully detailed throughout Europe.
